Children’s Ministry

The Children’s Ministry seeks to nurture children in the Christian faith through Scripture-centred learning, spiritual formation, creative engagement, and opportunities for leadership and participation across the Diocese. Its ministry seeks to provide children with a strong foundation in God’s Word while creating joyful and meaningful spaces in which they can grow in faith, character, and fellowship.

Junior Church Teachers’ Training Programmes equip teachers with biblical knowledge, child-sensitive teaching approaches, and practical skills for effective ministry among children. A recent diocesan-level training programme brought together 169 teachers, providing opportunities for learning, sharing, and mutual enrichment. Children’s retreats and faith-formation programmes further create meaningful spaces for worship, biblical learning, fellowship, reflection, and personal commitment to Christ. The CSI Synod Children’s Camp, conducted under the theme “Growing in Christ,” provided another significant opportunity for spiritual growth and fellowship.

The Ministry also makes effective use of digital platforms to strengthen and extend children’s faith formation. Junior Church WhatsApp groups, daily Bible verses, action songs, and online resources enable children to remain connected with Scripture and Christian learning beyond regular gatherings. Creative expression is also encouraged through activities such as the recent diocesan-level drawing competition, which received enthusiastic participation from 1,950 children, providing them with an opportunity to express biblical truths through art, imagination, and creativity.

World Sunday School Day is observed meaningfully, with children taking active roles in worship and strengthening fellowship among Tamil-speaking dioceses. Christmas programmes bring children, teachers, and staff together in worship and joyful celebration through Scripture, songs, and fellowship. Children’s Rallies continue to be a major diocesan initiative, engaging children across the District Church Councils through worship, Bible teaching, action songs, games, drama, interaction, and commitment prayer, reaching thousands of children across the Diocese.

The Vacation Bible School (VBS) ministry has been further strengthened through director training, resource development, and coordinated support. VBS programmes are conducted across 121 centres, engaging approximately 8,000 children, including children from non-Christian backgrounds. These programmes provide opportunities for children to encounter the Gospel in an engaging and inclusive environment through Scripture, songs, activities, fellowship, and creative learning.
