Department of Social Concerns
Social Action in Motion
The year in the ministry
The Department of Social Concerns tries to translate Christian compassion into practical action by addressing the needs of children, families, women, marginalised communities and people experiencing social and economic vulnerability.
The Department supports educational inclusion through initiatives such as breakfast provision to the children in our schools and free tuition support for rural students, with centres identified across several regions of the Diocese. Counselling support is extended to school students, while diocesan-level Pre-Marital Counselling programmes are organised to prepare young couples for healthy and responsible family life.
At times of natural disasters, the Department stands up to mobilise support towards relief and rehabilitation, demonstrating a strong spirit of solidarity beyond diocesan boundaries.
The Department also advances its commitment to Dalit and Adivasi communities through capacity-building initiatives, livelihood-oriented support and efforts to promote the sale of indigenous products such as honey, tea, cardamom and pepper. Training for women in tailoring and allied livelihood initiatives extended by the Department empowers women and, in turn, the families in need.
Through these diverse initiatives, the Department of Social Concerns seeks to make the Church’s mission of compassion, justice, and service a lived reality.
